Calvary Health Precinct Opening Ceremony
Team2 were honoured to attend the official opening of the $135m Calvary Kooyong Precinct (which will always be Calvary Bethlehem, or ‘Beth’, to us). We embarked on this journey with Calvary back in 2016, and after a very long journey through Council, VCAT, and Covid, the final result is here to be seen. The facility is unique in many ways, providing Independent Living Units (Towers), Residential Aged Care (Townhouses), palliative and neuro care, allied health and community outreach.
This design is one of our favourites, and one of which we are extremely proud, incorporating many of our preoccupations including places making, establishing welcoming and ‘sticky’ public spaces, and creating large-scale mixed-use communities at a human scale. A key driver of the design, and one which we came back to repeatedly, was the question: would you like to live or work here? We can say confidently that the answer to both is yes. While the new facility sites within a residential community of predominantly 1 and 2 storey houses, it sits comfortably within its context, and has already become a local favourite. We would like to thank our old friends (the dream team) at Calvary Health Care, Erilyan Pty Ltd, McKenzie Group Consulting and Willowtree Planning. We look forward to many more.
